IN THE BEGINNING …

“In the beginning, God created…” -Genesis 1:1
When I read this small initial passage of Scripture, I absolutely get goosebumps. It is an amazing opening to an immense story. However, this is not just a single line of Scripture to me. I also see this passage echoing in several other places. In fact, I actually see God repeating this concept of “beginning” in the life of every person He welcomes to His Kingdom family.
There was definitely a “beginning” associated with giving over my life to Jesus. In that, God truly “created” much in and around me – just as He did with the start of all things. Now, I am in no way trying to equate my finding Jesus to the creation of the entire Universe. Bit of a difference in scale, to be sure. Yet, I believe this beautiful consideration of a new beginning within my salvation story is brought forth from nothingness. Created and set down inside of me. Before accepting Christ, there was no doubt that my life was definitely “formless and empty.” Covered in darkness. Even still, “the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.” And when Jesus fully entered my life, it was the same as God speaking, “let there be light.”
“And God saw that the light was good.” – Genesis 1:4
And it WAS good. So very, very good – inside of me!
I praise the LORD every day for this unique “In the Beginning” creation story that He placed in me when He welcomed me in. And every time I am reminded of those words in Genesis 1:1 – I am also reminded of the beautiful “creation” work He did in me.
