“21 Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: 22 The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. 23 Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. 24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” 25 The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him. 26 So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord.” Lamentations 3:21-26 (NLT).
Jeremiah saw hope amidst his lamentation over the sin, sorrow, and devastation around him. He encouraged himself by remembering God’s steadfast love, mercy, and faithfulness. His soul shifted from despair to the LORD of his salvation. Jeremiah recalled the Lord’s never-ending faithful love and His compassion that never fails. He reflected on God’s steadfast love in the past, His promise of covenant love and faithfulness (Deuteronomy 7:9), and dared to trust in God’s faithfulness in his present. He stood firm in the truth of God’s character: Faithful, Loving, Trustworthy, All-knowing, Present, Mighty! God’s love sustains, carries and keeps us.
Daily trusting in God’s faithfulness fosters confidence in His great promises for the future. Each new day offers fresh hope, filled with new mercies and compassion from a loving God. No matter how difficult the previous day was, God’s people can greet a new morning with faith and hope. He will provide all we need for each day—ask! “Father, give us this day our daily bread—everything we need today to nourish our spirit and body: be it peace, joy, strength, courage, or provision. Lord, give us this day our daily bread!” Every morning ends the night, every morning brings a new day, every morning brings a fresh experience of God’s love, every morning brings new mercies, every morning brings new strength!
Jeremiah’s heart is encouraged as his faith grows from daring to declaring. “I say to myself, ‘The LORD is my inheritance; therefore I will hope in Him.” Lamentations 3: 24(NLT). He proclaimed that the LORD was his portion! No matter what measure, inheritance or future he was to receive, it would all be found in GOD. These are words of a satisfied soul. Jeremiah had no other source of satisfaction; he was content with his inheritance, and that portion was the LORD HIMSELF! Selah!
The LORD is good to those who place their trust in HIM, who depend on Him, those who diligently seek Him, His Name, His Glory. When he becomes the object of their affection, their pursuit, glory follows! It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD. Waiting requires stamina and the courage to be still during that time. Jeremiah is not waiting in vain; he is waiting with expectation for the Salvation of the LORD, the One Who Is Mighty to Save to the uttermost, his Deliverer, his Redeemer. The LORD of my Salvation!
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Saviour. The Sovereign LORD is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to tread on the heights. Habk.3:18-19 (NIV).
